Joe Bush

Joe Bush is the Managing Director of Youth & Family Engagement at the Black Male Educators Alliance (BMEA) and a dedicated leader in Black Male Development, with a focus on personal and community development, mentorship, and educational equity. With several years of experience in education and nonprofit leadership, he has made a lasting impact in mentorship, student leadership, and workforce development, and community engagement.

Joe began his career as an elementary educator in Detroit, Michigan, where he developed a passion for supporting and developing Black and Brown male students. Over the years, he has worked in various capacities, including nonprofit leadership, workforce development, and youth mentorship, helping to advance leadership training, student empowerment, and community-based education initiatives.

At BMEA, Joe plays a key role in developing and overseeing programs that support the growth and leadership of program coordinators, and elementary and high school students. He partners closely with teachers, parents, and school administrators to ensure that students from marginalized communities receive the guidance, mentorship, and support they need to thrive. Through initiatives such as BMEA’s Youth Leadership Development Program and Family Engagement Network, Joe drives measurable change by empowering young Black males to develop leadership skills, achieve academic success, and emerge as the next generation of extraordinary educators, community leaders, and changemakers dedicated to transforming their communities.

Apart from his role at BMEA, Joe has been deeply engaged in community outreach, youth mentorship programs, and leadership development initiatives. As a passionate advocate for ending youth homelessness, he has worked tirelessly to empower homeless youth by connecting them with resources, mentorship, and opportunities for stability and success. His expertise in Black Male Development and mentorship has played a pivotal role in fostering transformative opportunities for students through education, personal growth, and advocacy.

Joe Bush holds a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Wayne State University and is deeply committed to creating a holistic environment where all students—especially Black males—can thrive personally, academically, and professionally. Above all, he takes immense pride in being a devoted father to his beautiful daughter, embracing fatherhood with the same passion and dedication that he brings to his work in education and mentorship.
