Policy Reform in Education: Systems Change for Racial Equity in Education
Boldly Moving Education Ahead (B.M.E.A.) works with local and state entities to advocate for policy reform in education and systems changes that advance racial equity in education, transforming schools so they become more equitable spaces for all students.
The Reality We Face
In education, we are confronted with a stark reality – schools, mainly those serving Black, Brown, and economically disadvantaged communities, have not been set up for success, highlighting the urgent need for systemic advocacy and meaningful policy transformation.
Teacher vacancies, already a persistent problem, have reached alarming levels, leaving these schools grappling with a crisis that demands urgent attention and, more importantly, a commitment to meaningful transformation.
Why Quick Fixes Don’t Work
While it may be tempting to opt for quick fixes, history has repeatedly shown us that these band-aid solutions do not address the root causes of educational disparities. Instead, they perpetuate a cycle of inadequacy and inequality.

The Need for a Paradigm Shift
We need a paradigm shift, a departure from the neo-liberal version of school reforms that have often reduced schools to test-taking factories resembling prison-like industries.

BMEA CEO Presenting
The call for transformation is a call for an educational revolution, not an evolution – one that centers justice, equity, and meaningful systemic change in how we approach education policy. The status quo is no longer acceptable. We must challenge ourselves to create a system where every child, regardless of their socio-economic background or the color of their skin, has access to an education that equips them with knowledge and empowers them to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.”
— Martin Luther King, Jr
The time for change is now.
