About BMEA
Boldly Moving Education Ahead (BMEA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2017. We are committed to building equitable educational environments where Black male educators and students thrive. We focus on empowering the individual by providing the support, resources, and advocacy necessary for academic and professional success.
Our vision? To develop educators who transform the educational experience of Black and Brown students so that they become the leaders of tomorrow.

Our Origin Story
To know our founder, Dr. Curtis L. Lewis, is to understand the origins of the Boldly Moving Education Ahead. Raised by a family with incredible work ethic, achievement, and excellence, Dr. Lewis was destined to change the world.
With the guidance of his extraordinary family, a collection of influential people in his life—who he refers to as his “Angels”—and his firsthand life experience with an education system in dire need of change, Dr. Lewis began his journey to transform the educational experience of Black and Brown educators and children.
During every step of Dr. Lewis’s journey, he’s continued emphasizing love and care for the community, Restorative Practices, and culturally responsive learning, infusing them into the education system.
From serving as Principal at Henry Ford Academy Middle and High Schools, Chief Academic Officer at UPrep Schools, and now Founder of BMEA, he continues to lead with love, creating educational spaces that elevate and empower Black and Brown students to become future leaders.
