Christopher Waston
Chris Waston is the Chief Advisor to the President at Boldly Moving Education Ahead (BMEA) and a dedicated leader in educational equity and organizational strategy. As a veteran in urban education at the elementary, middle, high school, and district levels, he has made a lasting impact on efforts to increase literacy, math proficiency, and leadership development for Black and Brown students across Metro Detroit and beyond.
Chris began his career as a classroom teacher in Detroit, where he developed a passion for empowering youth and building effective educational systems. Over the years, he has served in various leadership roles, including Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal, and Director of Mathematics for a 10-school district in Detroit. His work has focused on closing the opportunity gap for marginalized students through innovative programming, teacher development, and culturally responsive practices.
At BMEA, Chris plays a key role in leading strategic partnership development and stewardship. He leads efforts to strengthen school-based programming, data collection, and impact measurement, ensuring BMEA’s mission of creating liberatory school spaces for every student is achieved. Through initiatives such as the Youth Leadership Development Program, Teacher Wellness Fellowship, and partnerships with major education systems like the NYC Department of Education, Chris has helped drive measurable progress, expanding BMEA’s reach and influence to stakeholders nationwide.
Chris has also been instrumental in organizing events and workshops to advance literacy and math in the community. His leadership has strengthened collaborations with local stakeholders and increased the visibility of BMEA’s work on a national scale.
Chris holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum from Michigan State University and is a certified K12 Administrator in the State of Michigan. A committed strategist and advocate for systemic change, Chris continues to advance BMEA’s mission of building equitable educational systems for all.
