Doing the Work in NYC – BMEA Expands School Partnerships Work to New York City

ree

BMEA partners with schools to offer professional development that supports them in developing a relationship-centered school culture by way of restorative practices. Furthermore, BMEA supports schools in developing and implementing an instructional model that focuses on increasing students’ level of independence.

In our home state of Michigan, we proudly partner with PACE Academy, Bradford Academy, Holt Junior High School, as well as Pontiac Middle School through a partnership with The Africa-America Institute (AAI). Our learning model draws from each partner school’s curriculum and positions educators to develop and facilitate instruction relevant to students’ lives.

This school year, we have expanded our School Partner work to two schools in New York City: Mott Hall and P.S. 110.

Working with these schools has been a pleasure as we collaborate with their respective women leaders to support them in their journey towards continually developing their staffs to be best able to support their students and families.

BMEA leads a series of professional learning sessions throughout the year both in person and virtually. In addition to engaging with the staff, our team meets regularly with school leadership to progress monitor and work in true partnership along this journey.

As always, we prioritize building relationships with all stakeholders. Coming into the year, it was important that we took time to get to know the teachers in the buildings and get an understanding of them as individuals, their desires, and their perspectives on teaching and learning.

We want you to stay tuned as these partnerships continue to develop over time. Ultimately, it is our goal to see transformative practices implemented that lead to improved teacher wellness and pedagogy leading to improved student outcomes while we increase family engagement.
